Cultural Fairness Issues in Testing in Clinical/Counseling Psychology

APA CE or NASP CPD credit available (1 credit hour) LENGTH: 50 minutes ABSTRACT: Cultural and language differences can affect scores on intelligence and psychological tests in ways that can affect clinical and learning evaluations. The speakers in this module discuss the relevant cultural and language issues in multicultural assessment. LEARNING OBJECTIVES: 1. Summarize the role of cultural equivalence when determining the appropriateness of a psychological instrument for a member of a subgroup. 2. Identify the role of language differences and acculturation when assessing depression or anxiety and how this can affect diagnoses in the Latino population. 3. Discuss issues in our current understanding of the construct of intelligence, and how it manifests in different settings for women and individuals from different ethnic groups.
