Apply principles for developing and analyzing ELA assessments that are valid for classroom use. 3. Create questions that reflect the depth and breadth of CCR ELA standards. 4. Explore ways that teachers can use principles from psychometrics to ensure valid and reliable designs. ABSTRACT: In this session, learn how two administrators used principles from classroom assessment and large-scale assessment to help teachers design classroom assessments that align with the language arts rigor required in today's College and Career Ready (CCR) standards and ultimately impacts their practice for student learning. In this interactive workshop, participants are introduced to evidence-centered design and the essential characteristics of high-quality items to actively learn how to analyze and write an aligned assessment that supports the three principles of the CCR language arts standards. BIOGRAPHY: Dr. Bryan R. Drost is the Executive Director of Educational Services for the Rocky River City Schools in Ohio. He has presented throughout the state and country on various topics related to instruction, assessment, pedagogy, data analysis, and technology integration. He is an adjunct faculty member at several Ohio colleges where he teaches courses in assessment, instructional design, school law, and leadership. He is the former chairperson of the NCME’s Standards and Test Use Committee, and has served as a technical reviewer for several-large scale assessments throughout the United States. Tricia Ebner, M.Ed., NBCT, is the assistant principal at Norton Elementary School in Norton, Ohio, and also serves as the district’s gifted coach and coordinator. She has held National Board Certification in Early Adolescent English Language Arts since 2000. She served as co-chair of Ohio's ELA Standards Revision in 2017 and has presented locally, regionally, and nationally on English language arts standards, instruction, assessment, and gifted child education. Tricia is an adjunct instructor of Malone University’s courses for gifted child education and enjoys working with and supporting teachers in strengthening instructional practices.
