Fairness in Testing: Measurement Issues

APA CE or NASP CPD credit available (1.5 credit hours) LENGTH: 75 minutes ABSTRACT: Cultural, linguistic, and disability differences can present challenges in the administration and interpretation of clinical and educational assessments. The speakers in this module address several potential threats due to these differences which can arise in the context of measurement, as well as possible solutions. LEARNING OBJECTIVES: 1. Describe how the push to use different devices in educational settings can impact subgroups in test response behaviors. 2. Explain the meaning of cultural validity. 3. Recall how language can be a source of measurement error, and be able to name one way in which tests can be amended to account for this. 4. Discuss fairness issues in current measurement practices as well as some proposed methods to address them.
