PRESENTER BIOGRAPHY: 

Martha Thurlow, Ph.D. (Educational Psychology, 1993) is the Director of the National Center on Educational Outcomes. In this position, she addresses the implications of contemporary U.S. policy and practice for students with disabilities and English Language Learners, including national and statewide assessment policies and practices, standards-setting efforts, and graduation requirements. Dr. Thurlow has conducted research for the past 40 years in a variety of areas, including assessment and decision making, learning disabilities, early childhood education, dropout prevention, effective classroom instruction, and integration of students with disabilities in general education settings.  She has published extensively on all of these topics, authoring numerous books and book chapters, and publishing more than 200 articles and reports. Dr. Thurlow was co-Editor of Exceptional Children, the research journal of the Council for Exceptional Children from 1995 - 2003, and is currently associate editor or reviewer for numerous journals. She was awarded the President’s Award for Outstanding Service by the University of Minnesota in 2011 and the J.E. Wallin Wallace Lifetime Achievement Award by the Council for Exceptional Children in 2015.
